Is This the Result of the Past?

"Honey, I'm not sure if I still want to attend our neighbors' gelatin party next week."
     "Why is that, dear?"
"I don't know, there's something just not right about those two; they're up to no good."
Although these thoughts may come and go in a more tacit manner, their commonality is one that cannot be ostracized.  It's all just an expression of intuition, that "gut-feeling", no?  It seems like these days people have many malevolent "feelings" about others, so much so that many feel as though no one can be trusted.  Are people truly as noisome as others perceive them to be?
Of course such a question is difficult to fulfill with an answer, for, granted, some intuitions have the ability to dodge the labeling of pertaining to mere bunkum, but due to the great masses in which such accusations appear, such a question is qualified.  Maybe it is just I, who has noticed a recent rise of litany pertaining to those who have a suspicious nature, or maybe it is not.
Just the other day, I noticed a woman, whose panache I found to be quite peculiar.  All black is what she wore, accessorized with glasses of a dark shade that created much resilience in terms of her identity; she could have been anyone.  Almost transfixed by such an appearance, I basically began to mentally reconnoiter this woman as she passed by, for she was entering an educational facility, one that enclosed quite a few small children.  As I was exiting this place, she was entering.   A glimpse at this woman seemed to last for almost five minutes; maybe that could have been a direct effect of my analyzing of her, but I cannot be sure.  Her clothes were not the only prominence that I noticed; mainly, it was the fact that she had one hand in her front jacket pocket.  Such a realization quickly turned my insides into quite a herculean knot that in response, activated the siren in mind that labeled this woman as one who was "up to no good".
As one may have already realized, a vendetta was not within the intentions of this woman, but my intuition said that such was in fact within her mindset.  The ingenuous act of defying the cold, brisk air, created the perception of immoral action, which caused me to take part in an almost soporific state of mind in which reality discontinued its flow to my mindset.  One can never truly explain the source or reason for such events, but they do, in fact, occur - their production mysterious.
Maybe this temporary hiatus of blasé character stems from instinct to detect danger created by others, a trait present during prehistoric times, or maybe just from the recent happenings of one's own personal "mecca", their home, community, state, or even nation.  Could such mental and sometimes public accusations have an affiliation with the aftermath of 9/11, WWII, Pearl Harbor, or other events farther back into history?  Such traumatic events could instill a great amount of fear, a fear that subjugates one to such a point that everyone is under suspicion, thus more of these, usually faulty, intuitions occur.

Only a theory it is, one of many that can be formed; however, such a rise's cause may not have as much significance as its current existence, for this is something that can be affected and changed for the future.  I, personally, concur with such a change, the exculpating of those under such skepticism, for I feel that such a great fear is not warranted, but these days, sometimes it is.
